Manually install the most recent version of the Appcues builder when the Chrome Store version is having issues.
Manually installing the builder should only be done if there's an issue with the current version of the builder you're using. If you're unsure whether the issue you're seeing is related to the current version, contact support@appcues.com first. This guide walks you through manually installing the most recent version of the Appcues builder. This can bring you to a version that's newer than the one currently published in the Chrome Store, which is useful when the Chrome Store version is causing problems.
Prerequisites
- Contact support@appcues.com to request the builder extension file. If manual installation is the right fix, support will share the file with you along with anything you need to complete these steps.
MacOS
- Open the extension file support shared with you. It will unpack into a folder on your computer.
- In Chrome, navigate to
chrome://extensions/the folder. - Toggle Developer Mode on in the upper right of the window.

- In the upper left, click
Load Unpacked

- Select the folder from step 1 and click Select.
- You should now be running the most recent version of the Appcues builder.
Windows
- Open the extension file support shared with you so it unpacks into a folder on your computer.
- In Chrome, navigate to
chrome://extensions/. - Toggle Developer Mode to on in the upper right of the window

- In the upper left, click
Load Unpacked
- Open the unpacked folder, select the build folder inside it, then click Select Folder.
- You should now be running the most recent version of the Appcues builder.
