Workflow Analytics
Track starts, finishes, and per-node engagement metrics for any Workflow
Table of Contents
Workflow analytics show how users move through a Workflow and how they interact with each message. Use them to identify drop-off points, measure email and push engagement, and understand how effectively the Workflow drives users to the finish criteria.
Open the analytics view
- Go to Workflows in Studio and select the Workflow you want to analyze.
- Switch to the Analytics view using the toggle at the top of the canvas.
- Click any node on the canvas to see its metrics in the side panel.

Date range
Use the date range selector at the top to filter all metrics on the canvas. You can view any period up to a maximum of 60 days. Changing the range updates every node's metrics simultaneously.

Start analytics
Click the Start node to see how many users entered the Workflow during the selected period, along with the change compared to the previous period. A daily chart shows enrollment over time.
Users who time out still appear in Start analytics but may not appear in Finish analytics.

Email analytics
Click any Email node to see an engagement chart and a metrics table for the selected period. The available metrics:
- In Queue — The email is queued but not yet sent. This can happen when a sending window, rate limit, or user-level frequency limit is delaying delivery.
- Sent — Appcues sent the email. It still needs to be accepted by the recipient's email provider to count as delivered. Emails are not sent to users on suppression lists or to invalid/malicious addresses.
- Delivered — The email was sent and accepted by the recipient's email provider.
- Opened — The recipient opened the email. Open rate is calculated as a percentage of delivered.
- Clicked — The recipient clicked a link in the email. Click rate is calculated as a percentage of delivered.
- Unsubscribed — The recipient clicked the unsubscribe link and was added to the Unsubscribed suppression list. Unsubscribe rate is calculated as a percentage of sent.
- Bounced — Delivery failed. An email can soft-bounce and be retried for up to 8 hours before being marked as bounced.
-
Skipped — Appcues did not attempt to send the email for various reasons, such as:
- The recipient is on a suppression list.
- The email address is invalid.
- The recipient is dangerous or malicious. This means that it is considered high risk and should not be sent to, as it could harm your sender reputation by being associated with spam or other malicious activities; this could include spam traps, addresses on known blacklists, or addresses with suspicious domain characteristics like newly created domains or subdomains often used by spammers.
Click the user count next to any metric to see the list of individual users.
For a cross-Workflow view of email metrics, see Email performance.

Push analytics
Click any Mobile Push node to see engagement metrics for the selected period:
Sent — The number of push notifications sent.
Opened — The number of sent notifications that were opened.

Finish analytics
Click the Finish node to see the completion rate: the percentage of users who satisfied the finish criteria out of those who started. A daily chart compares starts and finishes side by side.
Only users who started the Workflow within the selected date range are counted in Finish analytics. Users who finished during the selected period but started before it are excluded, so the finish rate reflects the true conversion of a cohort.

Messages summary
The Finish node also shows how many messages were sent to users who started during the selected period. A user counts as "Reached" by a message if they were sent a push notification or had an email delivered. If a goal or segment is used as finish criteria, you'll also see how many users who received each message went on to finish.
These counts may differ from the metrics on individual Email or Push nodes. The per-node metrics include all users regardless of when they started, while the Finish node only counts users who started within the selected date range.

User lists and export
Most metrics include a clickable user count that opens a list of individual users. Click Export on any user list to download it as a CSV.
